Folk Music with Distortion

-Bio-

The cold, wet Isle of Albion was formed when extreme flooding separated it from mainland Europe about 8000 years ago.

The next most significant event in its history was of course when four young whippersnappers decided to dig up the archaic term as the namesake of their new band during the summer of 2019.

But why you ask? Well, because at the core of this band would be the preservation and exposure of age-old folksong and folklore taken predominantly from that hallowed island, combined with a bit (or a lot) of Arthurian myth, all masquerading as something new with the aid of modern electricity and amplification, or ‘folk rock’ as they say.

The result is far from a historical recreation however, and although the band have been known to dabble in more than one cover or ‘rendition of a traditional’, the music is (if they do say so themselves) an original endeavour, though one rooted very much in that older heritage.

2021 saw the release of the band’s first EP ‘Pryderi’, that featured four continuous tracks detailing the life of the eponymous figure from Welsh mythology, described by Background Magazine as ‘...jaw dropping music by four brilliant musicians’. Incidentally the band thought so too.

Then finally after much toil, the start of 2024 saw the band’s debut full length album ‘Lakesongs of Elbid’ burst onto the scene.

This acclaimed 70 minute opus was described by reviewer Angry Metal Guy as ‘Extraordinarily British’ which perhaps justifies and summarises the band’s choice of name better than anything else.

The boys continue to play up and down the country with the occasional European excursion as the fully electrified outfit, though oftentimes injecting the shows with acoustic sets of the more traditional material.

Your attendance is highly encouraged, although a thick skin is advised if standing too close to the front as the band have been known to lightly insult the audience on one or two occasions, all in the name of good fun of course.

Work on the follow-up to the debut album is nearing completion, and this nameless future entity will no doubt continue the band’s development in that ancient musical vein.
